I don't have a strong opinion on whether to land this and complicate (slightly) the solver, or keep things as they are. But given the concerns today on haskell-cafe over the beginner-friendliness of HasCallStack, I thought I'd at least offer the patch.

@kolmodin no this is quite intentional and based on my guide where I tell people to install just GHC and Cabal unless they're using Windows, in which case they use Platform. I get a lot of people started with Haskell and Platform was causing more problems than it was solving for Linux and Mac users.
